Testimony of Sébastien Quintallet, Coach of the US Ivry handball pro team
We used Myocene to prepare the team for the preseason. It’s a really quick and easy tool! Thanks to him, the whole team measured themselves before and after every session, every training day and every game day. Thanks to these daily measurements, we have been able to monitor the team’s overall progress, as well as that of individual players.
Some excellent news came from the team’s general trend. In fact, we observed that the average Powerdex (Powerdex is the fatigue index provided by Myocene) of all the players was on the rise throughout the preparation period. This indicated an improvement in the players’ physical condition: both better resistance to fatigue (i.e. less fatigue generated by the various training sessions) and better recovery (faster return to 100% muscle) after training sessions and matches.
However, a trend analysis of each player’s individual Powerdex enabled us to identify that for one of them, preparation was not going well. In fact, its trend was downward, whereas for all the others it was upward. Pre-exercise Powerdex remained low, indicating that recovery was not sufficient and needed to be adapted.
We also observed the fatigue generated during each training session. This enabled us to identify the most tiring sessions, i.e. those requiring more recovery time, and therefore an adaptation to optimize the schedule.
Finally, we compared the fatigue generated by each session for the team with that of each player, and thus identified the athletes most and least resistant to muscular fatigue. This makes it possible to individualise the training load, increasing it for the most fatigue-resistant and reducing it for the others.
The Myocene is therefore a tool that provides us with key data for our training program.
